Singledout was a dating TV show by MTV back in the 1990s. It ran from 1995 to 1998 and each episode comprised of 50 single men and 50 single women who would all compete for a date with one main contestant of each sex. Chris Hardwick and Jenna McCarthy originally hosted it, but Jenna McCarthy left early on in 1997 to host her own comic sketch show and was later on replaced by Carmen Electra for the remaining year and a half. Because of the shows pioneering status in the reality television and dating show arena, there is still a lot of singled out info all over the web, especially from former fans of the show as well as fans of earlier MTV.
There are two essential groups in the game play of singledout. One is the picker, who is comprised of one person who is the main contestant, and the other is the dating pool, which is comprised of the 50 single people who are vying for a date with the picker. The process of picking the person that the picker will go on a date with has three rounds. The first round is called categories, wherein the picker will choose certain categories that she dislikes in a potential mate. The people who are then in that category will be asked to leave, although the picker is allowed one save for a contestant that catches her attention. The second round of singledout is called Keep Em or Dump Em, wherein the picker will ask a series of questions to the people left in the dating pool. The picker will then decide whether she will keep the person or dump them according to their answer.
The last round of the game is called the Final Cut, and it is when the last three remaining contestants have to be the first to be able to reach the contestant by answering a series of questions with matching answers of the picker. The first one to reach the picker wins the date.
